The Spotted Skunk is smaller than the more familiar Striped Skunk. His spots are like broken stripes on head, back & sides. He swims, climbs and
burrows and eats large insects,rodents and fruit. He does a handstand to warn or to spray!
The Aplodontia (Mountain Beaver) does not hibernate. In the winter it tunnels up through the snow in search of food; it will eat some evergreens.
There are 15 species of Bats in the Sierra; some hibernate while others migrate southward to warmer climes. A mother bathes her baby daily with her tongue.
