Injured, sick or orphaned wild birds, mammals and reptiles require
food, medical treatment, care and housing; Equipment is needed for rescue,
handling, and diagnosis.
Bird species seen include raptors, water and game birds, songbirds,
and specialized species such as hummingbirds and poorwills. Mammals
include herbivores, carnivores and omnivores such as raccoons, rabbits,
hares, and squirrels.
Feeding such a variety of animals requires
a wide range of foods: live foods such as mealworms, crickets, crayfish,
fish, rodents; nectar; thistle, sunflower, and other seeds; dry dog
food, eggs, vegetables, and fruit. Specialized formulas and supplements
are also provided when needed.
Treatment can require: fluids, medications,
needles and syringes, catheters, bandaging and splint materials, veterinary
care, vaccines, and more. Laboratory equipment helps us to determine
blood values, degrees of emaciation, and the causes of some illnesses.
Care includes: bedding, food and water
dishes, paper towels and Kleenex, cleaning materials, hoses, fans,
air purifiers, misting systems.
Rescue and handling call for: nets, carriers,
gloves, protective eyewear, pole syringes,
raptor hoods, catchpoles and squeeze cages.
Housing includes: incubators, small baskets
and cages for babies, carriers, large cages; pens and aviaries that
meet the mandated size requirements for both birds and mammals being
rehabilitated.

Fly Away Program
"A few coins a day will help me fly away" is the slogan for Eastern Sierra Wildlife Care's new fundraising program. Attractive "Fly Away" coin cannisters make it easy for individuals to support the wildlife rehabilitation work of this tax-exempt, volunteer-based organization.

You can call Cindy at 872-1487 and arrange to take home a can to fill with your spare coins. Bishop area participants can drop off their filled cannisters at Curves, 1180 N. Main St. (next to Smart and Final) or call 872-8783 to schedule a pickup. Arrangements are being made for a drop-off site in the Mammoth area.
All proceeds from the "Fly Away" program go to the care and feeding of orphaned and injured wild birds and mammals.
